408. accidental lovers

Sorry.. I’m in kind of a funk when it comes to ideas.

You know, last week was so strange. I waited all week for Thursday night to see the new Batman movie.

..Like it was Christmas or something.

Then, Friday morning comes and I wake up excited to start texting people my mini-reviews of the movie, but then I quickly heard about the shooting.

It was just so surreal.

Something I had been looking so forward to was the setting for the worst day of so many people’s lives.

I don’t know.. I really have no thoughts on the shooting itself, other than how tragic it was/is.

I mean, I’d like to. I’d like to put something witty or thoughtful here, but I just don’t have anything. Simple as that.

It is crazy to go back and watch the Dark Knight now though, listening to Heath Ledger’s version of the joker talk about chaos and upsetting the natural order of things and then to think about how safe we’ve gotten used to feeling in that setting.

The movies are supposed to be safe. They’re supposed to be fun escapes from our regular world. Somewhere you can pretend like Batman really exists for a couple of hours and then go back to normal life.

I hate that that sort of a place has now been tainted with so much violence and maliciousness. I hate that it happened at the premiere of a movie about how morals and strength of character can endure anything.

I just hate that it happened altogether.

Now, I’m in no way saying that the shooting has anything to do with me sitting in the middle of a comic idea brain fart, it’s just something that I’m thinking about and still kind of stuck on.

I’ll get back with the program soon enough.
